Suicidal Man Arrested in Moorpark for Attempted Murder
Suspect Shot at Ventura County Deputies and Estranged Wife
On Tuesday, July 12th, 2023, a suicidal man was arrested in Moorpark, California for attempted murder after shooting at Ventura County deputies and his estranged wife.
The incident began at approximately 11:30 a.m. when deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on the 500 block of Bent Creek Drive. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the suspect's estranged wife, who reported that the suspect had assaulted her and was armed with a gun.
Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect, identified as 52-year-old John Doe, but he refused to come out of the house. A standoff ensued for several hours, during which time Doe fired multiple shots at deputies and his estranged wife. Miraculously, no one was injured.
At approximately 4:00 p.m., deputies were able to enter the residence and take Doe into custody without further incident. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Doe has been booked into the Ventura County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, and resisting arrest. His bail has been set at $1 million.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
