Cornhuskers Prevail in Dramatic Battle for State Supremacy

Lincoln, Nebraska – September 17, 2023

In a thrilling five-set battle played before a sellout crowd at the Devaney Center, No. 5 Nebraska volleyball emerged victorious over in-state rival No. 9 Creighton Bluejays.

The Cornhuskers started strong, taking the first set 25-18. Creighton responded by claiming the second set 25-21, setting the stage for a back-and-forth contest.

In a pivotal third set, Nebraska rallied from a 13-10 deficit to win 25-23 and regain momentum. The Bluejays refused to succumb, taking the fourth set 25-19 and forcing a fifth set to decide the match.

The fifth set was a nail-biter, with both teams exchanging leads. Nebraska ultimately proved too strong, winning the fifth set 15-13 and securing the victory.

Senior outside hitter Madi Kubik led the Cornhuskers with 23 kills, while middle blocker Kayla Caffey added 16 kills and seven blocks. Creighton was led by junior middle blocker Keeley Davis' 18 kills.
